20 million+ U.S. military veterans risked their lives in service, but for many, surviving war is just the beginning.

Through intimate vérité footage & interviews filmed over 8 years, the film uncovers a detrimental gap between vets & the civilian populace they protected, while exposing a culture of silence preventing vets from sharing their wartime experiences.

The bravery of those who open up their lives & stories introduces audiences to a diverse community of vets discovering inspiring ways to thrive at home, transforming lives by continuing their service to others.

“I made an effort to deal with the consequence of my service the way my dad did: not talk about it. I need to talk, so I can gain understanding, which leads to integration.”

Claude AnShin Thomas, Vietnam War Veteran

“At first, I thought, ‘I'm just this burnt-up, blown-up guy. What can I do?’ I have bad days, but what do I have to complain about? I get to see my kids and my grandkids someday. And I realized I'm going to be able to give back.”

“It hurts when nobody cares about a veteran. There's stress. They’re killing themselves right and left.”

- Richard Green, World War II Veteran

“Just the fact that people are making the effort to try to understand, just to be exposed to us, this is what it requires.”

- John Scanlan, Vietnam War Veteran
