“Surviving Home” Film Screening

As an SHSU student, FVF Founder Alex hosted a screening of the award-winning film Surviving Home.

From Isolation to Connection: “We’re here on this earth to help each other out. It’s not about, ‘I’ve got mine. The heck with you…’ We’re all connected in one way or another.”- Tracey Cooper-Harris, Iraq War Veteran

20 million + U.S. military veterans have put their lives on the line in service to their country, to date.

But for many, surviving war is just the beginning. Surviving Home is a multiple award-winning documentary that follows veterans of multiple generations as they adjust to life after military service. Through intimate vérité footage & interviews filmed over the course of 8 years, the film uncovers a detrimental gap between vets & the civilian populace they protected, while exposing a culture of silence preventing veterans from talking about their wartime experiences.

Through the bravery of the men & women who open up their lives and share their stories in this film, audiences are introduced to a diverse community of vets who have discovered inspiring ways to survive and also to thrive back home, transforming their lives & continuing their service to others.
